In my sport, we don't have breaks or timeouts, there's no off season and no one sits out on the bench. We don't postpone because of weather and we don't quit because of injury. I don't usually talk to my teammate but we communicate without words. Were inseparable and have a special kind of bond. We don't practice five hours a week, more like five hours a day, six days a week. All my sport really is, is galloping full speed, finding distances, swapping leads, spinning, doing the required pattern EXACTLY how it is written, and looking good doing it. If you think running, jumping, shooting, or throwing a ball, or anything else is more difficult than sitting on an animal that weighs ten times as much as you with a mind of its own... while ridding full speed toward a solid stationary object that stands taller than you do is harder? Prove it to me. I dare you to get on a horse and do what I do. Were dedicated and gutsy. We fall, and get right back up there and do it again.
Some people say going out to the movies with their friends is their favorite thing to do. But what I love has a much deeper meaning. It's connecting with something that may be scared, lonely, or angry, and showing them all the amazing things you can accomplish together. It's making a bond with something that, unlike people, will never hurt you and will share their wisdom. It's being thrown in the dirt, and getting up and brushing yourself off. It's a passion that is filled with strength, determination, precision, grace, and much more. It's the definition of a true sport, one that takes courage and love. It's tough having to control an animal ten times your weight and strength.
It's waking up at four in the morning because you have a show that day and you can't hardly sleep. It's the rush that you feel when you first go into the ring. It's the nerves eating up the inside of your stomach. It's the wave of nausea then the whole world stops and all you can hear are four hooves and two hearts beating as one.
It's called being an EQUESTRIAN.
